building of casino should be condemmed

Gambling has been around for a very long time. Many people take gambling as simply a form of leisure. Not me. To me, gambling is very harmful, it not just harms the person gambling, but also the people around him and his loved ones, just like what the youtube video said, : “ Often, the people who really suffer from problem gambling aren’t really the gamblers.”
Gambling creates many problems for people, it tears apart families creates lots and lots of problems, as it is, Singapore already has so many problem gamblers, the building of the casino would just make things worse. Yes, the casino has banned problem gamblers, but what about the others, the building of a casino would just destroy more families, gamblers would think that by building the casino, the government is not discouraging them but is even encouraging them to continue with their gambling ways , the casino’s methods of counseling would not work then, because gamblers think their luck is going up even though they always lose. Whenever they lose, all they would think of is to recoup their loses. Going to the casino to the gamblers would be their chance to make it big, but I am afraid that they would “lose big” instead. The casino would be too tempting for the gamblers, and just like one of the youtube videos, the gambler in it said “just one more time”. That’s what he says, and probably what he means at that time, but once he goes to the casino, he would just keep going for more, resulting in more loses, once the gambler is addicted, all he thinks of is gambling, he would have been totally brainwash by gambling, he would just continue gambling regardless of whether he is in deep arrears or not, because the only thing in his mind is something called gambling, and his family would be neglected, they would owe money and be plunged into hardship
My father said that gambling is probably one of the toughest addictions to remove, to me, the building of a casino is indirectly destroying families, thus IT SHOULD BE CONDEMMED.

My Dinosaur

My toy dinosaur was given to me right after I was born (as I was told), and it's been with me since then, it was then a very attractive toy and everyone under the age of 5 in my family wanted it, but yet I was the chosen one, I was kind of proud, hugging my dinosaur and showing them off to my under 5 relatives, they would look in envy at the coveted little toy which became my.

But that was then, if I ask my now under 13 relatives whether they wanted my toy, I be they would say:" Oh, it's okay, you can keep it," even if I ask everybody in the family, no one would want it. I don't blame them, who would want a now torn, ragged and smelly toy that was barely a shade of its "former glory".

I would want it though. Sometimes, I would also ask my friends why don't they throw away their old toys, they would then ask me the same question, for me, it's because I already have a bond with my dirty old dinosaur, built over a long time.

Weird, isn't it, a dirty old toy that doesn't catch your eye is actually the owner's treasure. These old toys have been actually become our buddies, sharing sadness and hapiness with me, when I'm upset, I would bury myself in the artificial fur of my old dinosaur, over a long time, my dinosaur becomes my confidante, so despite it being old and unwanted, by many, I would still want it, even though it smells of milk and other grosteque stuff and and has many gaping holes, becuse it has become my best friend

Jack Prelutsky

All Poets loved poetry since young, don't they. Well most did, but there were some exceptions. One of these exceptions was Jack Prelutsky. He once said that " there was a time when I couldn't stand the stuff. In grade school, I had a teacher who left me with the impression that poetry was the literary equivalent of liver. I was told that it was good for me, but I wasn't convinced. " Thus it amazes me that he became such an acomplished poet. It was probably because he was not convinced that gave him such resolve to make poetry delightful and humourous, most of his poems are also very funny.

He has imagination that has no limits, thus his poems are mostly out of the box, and exciting, he once said "I realized poetry was a means of communication, that it could be as exciting or as boring as that person or that experience" with that kind of imagination, poems was never the same. He gets his ideas from anywhere and any experience, one example was when he had a bad dinner, then he wrote about it. I feel that his poems, are also very close to everyday life as he writes about what happens to him and and is able to picture it perfectly into poems, I think that to Jack, writng poems are like telling the day's events to a confidante, to him poems are probably a good friend whom he can confide in, as he had said , poems are also a source of communication, it allows other people to also know what he wants to say, or what message he wnts to convey.

Jack Prelutsky is by no doubt a humorous question. When ask what 3 wishes he wanted. He said, he wanted to sing like Pavarotti, paint like Picasso and and dance like Fred Astaire, he then said:" Unfortunately, I dance like Pavarotti, sing like Picasso and paint like Fred Astaire".

Here are some of his poems:

BE GLAD YOUR NOSE IS ON YOUR FACE
Be glad your nose is on your face,
not pasted on some other place,
for if it were where it is not,
you might dislike your nose a lot.
Imagine if your precious nose
were sandwiched in between your toes,
that clearly would not be a treat,
for you'd be forced to smell your feet.
Your nose would be a source of dread
were it attached atop your head,
it soon would drive you to despair,
forever tickled by your hair.
Within your ear, your nose would be
an absolute catastrophe,
for when you were obliged to sneeze,
your brain would rattle from the breeze.
Your nose, instead, through thick and thin,
remains between your eyes and chin,
not pasted on some other place--
be glad your nose is on your face!

LAST NIGHT I DREAMED OF CHICKENS
Last night I dreamed of chickens,
there were chickens everywhere,
they were standing on my stomach,
they were nesting in my hair,
they were pecking at my pillow,
they were hopping on my head,
they were ruffling up their feathers
as they raced about my bed.
They were on the chairs and tables,
they were on the chandeliers,
they were roosting in the corners,
they were clucking in my ears,
there were chickens, chickens, chickens
for as far as I could see...
when I woke today, I noticed
there were eggs on top of me.

AS SOON AS FRED GETS OUT OF BED
As soon as Fred gets out of bed,his underwear goes on his head.
His mother laughs, "Don't put it there,a head's no place for underwear!"
But near his ears, above his brains,is where Fred's underwear remains.
At night when Fred goes back to bed,he deftly plucks it off his head
His mother switches off the lightand softly croons, "Good night! Good night!"
And then, for reasons no one knows,Fred's underwear goes on his toes

Hyperbole: Your nose would be a source of dread were it attached atop our head, it soon would drive you to despair, forever tickled by your hair, the author probably use this because he wanted to emphasize the fact that the nose cannot be atop the head.

Metaphor: imagine your precious nose were
sandwiched in between toes, that clearly would not be a treat, The author agains wants to tell us that the nose is not suited to be between toes

Symbolism : Nose. To me, the nose actually represents us. The author is actually trying to tell us to be happy with what we have.

Why I like this poem: I like this poem because it tells us to be happy with what we have now and not go for far fetched ambitions as it could be catastrophic , but yet it tells us in a very humorous and it uses the nose , which is a body part, something that is part of us, it also tells me very clearly that if my nose was on another position, it would be disastrous, and at the last part of the poem it even says"Your nose, instead, through thick and thin, remains between your eyes and chin, not pasted on some other place--be glad your nose is on your face! " The poem tells things in a very light hearted manner, but yet has a very deep meaning. It does not tell things in a deep in boring way and thus I think it is a very interesting poem .

sorry the last sentence in the recent post, "will......perfect world" "however we would also be imperfect ourselves", is typo error , so please ignore the last sentence

will there ever be a perfect world? What would it be like?

The world is undoubtly full of imperfections. People make mistakes everyday whether minor or even grave. To acheive perfection for the whole world means that everybody on the world must not make mistakes and do the wrong thing. Even as I am writing this blog post, someone on this world is making or already has made a mistake. Perfection means without any blemishes. However when someone makes a mistake and does something wrong, no matter how small, it has already created a blemish and cause imperfection.

One of the biggest imperfection of the world is that the different countries are not united. This is because each countries all have selfish desires of their own. To them, being united means showing that they are weak and it also takes away their gains so they prefer to be on their own. When countries are not united, they will have disgreements and conflicts. When not handled properly, it leads to war, this is obviously not even close to a perfect world. To me, perfection is something beyond us , it is simply too elusive, it is already a mammoth task to acheive perfection in a family let alone the world. There are presently too many problems that the world is currently facing-Global Warming , Economic Crises, Conflict between Countries,Terrorism. All this are just a small percentage of the problems that the world is facing now.
Global Warming and the present Economic Crises all started with the tiny imperfection of us, we wanted to use the world's resources for the benefit of all of us. that was fine , until we got GREEDY, we started to overuse the resources, the problems and the imperfections of our own greed started flooding in. As for the economic crises, we were once again greedy, trying to get a quick buck.

Greed is a very big and dark imperfection. It has the same effect as drugs as it causes you to yearn for more, perhaps it can be said that greed is the cause of many of the negative man-made events in the world. Greed has "been around for many years", but has not been curbed. If we are unable to remove ourselves from greed, there would never ever be a perfect world. Thus I think that there will not ever be a perfect world as the amount of flaws we have are just too much and serious for perfection to be acheived, I would also consider it impossible for our flaws
to be separated from us because the world has just too much temptations

In the event that the perfect world has been acheived, everybody would be at peace with each other, there would be no conflict , no wars, no economic crises, no more global warming. There woul also be no more bitter rivalries between countries and companies.Everything would be perfect. The world would be perfect, it would probably be a paradise. Everything negative would disappear for good, there would be no more sadness, anger, just happiness and friendship, nobody will have greed, everybody would just share and just take what they need.

That is if perfection is acheived, it is wonderful, yet elusive, I do not mind it if you call me pessimistic, but by the looks of the situation now and our many flaws, a perfect world is impossible

However, we would still be imperfect ourelves

Franklin Delano Roosevelt

Roosevelt was the only president who had served for more than 2 terms. He had served for 4 terms. He was a central figure of the 20th century during a time of worldwide economic crisis and world war.
Roosevelt was a charismatic leader who managed to revive his country from the "Great Deprssion" . He was also able to unite his country with flair and lead them out of the crisis strongly. He was also someone with awesome willpower. Even though he had been diagnosed with an illness that paralysed him from his waist down, he refused to believe that he would be paralsyed permantly, and stubornly refused to be seen on a wheelchair in public. He forced himself to walk with the help of iron braces and once in a while, his son or an aide. He was also steadfast in the decisions he made, even though they were sometimes met with furious protests from the public , with the ability to bear criticism and not succumb to overwhelming pressure, he made decisions, that seemed incorrect but changed the nation for the better.Roosevelt never gave up even though the odds were many times against him, remarkably, he guided America out of the depression and war into prosperity, even though he was paralysed.
Of course, Roosevelt is but human, and to err is human. He had an affair outside his marriage, with his wife's social secretary, Lucy Mercer, and at one point was indecisive and was unable to prevent the Holocaust, which killed many.256.
Nevertheless,Franklin Delano was the great leader many can only dream to be. Reflecting on Roosevelt's presidency,"Which brought the United States through the "Great Depression" and "World War II" to a prosperous future" said Roosevelt's biographer Jean Edward Smith in 2007 . "He lifted from a wheelchair to lift the nation from its knees"

MY HOMEWORKS PILING UP AND I HAVE A COMPETITION ONGOING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WELL I VJUST HOPE I CAN COPE WITH THE NEW HECTIC LIFESTYLE OF SECONDARY SCHOOL.
To me what qualities should the perfect life or being the perfect human exact? My opinion's that it should be defined by excitement meaningful events. Life's about having fun in a meaningful way, i'd say. Naturally, you need friends in the equation. I dare say i am a living example. Well, I'm having the time of my life, hell yeah. I am reunited with my old friends in a new secondary school. I also meet new and great friends -my classmates this year.

An ideal human would be one mentally and physically fit and without any defects.

I prefer the Charlie with an IQ of 200 as although he was quite arrogant , he became more humane and decided to help the mentally challenged with the intelligence he was given. The reason why I don't prefer the Charlie with an IQ of 68 was because although he was kind and , he did not have the intelligence and thus was unable to help others. In comparision, IQ 68 charlie might have had the proper virtues but he was incapable of accomplishing anything simply because he was, put bluntly, stupid. Incompetent. However, IQ 200 charlie, as i would call him, had the intellect to carry out task effectively and efficiently. He could do things. He could accomplish more.

I feel that science should not be used to artificially improve someone's intelligence external appearance as all of this is going against the course of life. Besides, everyone was created to be different and special. Anyway,if you think positively, these flaws make you who you are. They distinct you from others. You are unique, partly due to your flaws as well.
I would like to comment on the story "The Taximan's Story" from the book "Little Ironies".
The main character of the story, the taximan picks up a teacher and talks to her about rebellious teenagers of today. He first cheerfully talks about how long he has been a taxi driver and the number of people in his family. He evcn boasts about his daughter who although is sickly, is a very obedient child. He than goes from praising his oldest daughter to complaining about his other daughter to the teacher. The taximan than laments about how teens have changed negatively compared to teens in the past and said that he would be cane when he was young whenever he did something wrong. He said solemnly that if parents are not strict, children would go astray and indulge in detrimental habits like refusing to study and instead going to nightclubs, take drugs and make love.
However, in spite of the praise he showers on his oldest daughter, he goes on to reprimand her and even and even goes to the extent of thrashing her, slapping her and beating her for behaving boldly and skipping school this is puzzling as when we read the earlier part of his story I thought that his daughter was the apple of his eye and that he would never criticise her openly. The irony is that although we expect that the taximan would not comment on the bad things that his daughter had done , and only comment on the good things she had done, however, unexpectedly, he talked about the shameful thing which his daughter did, which is shocking.Another thing is that the the taximan never expected his daughter to behave so boldly and lie to him that she was going back to school. He says he dislikes teens gone astray but little did we expect that he actually loves them for their generous tips and habit not to request for change, this is weird as he claimed he did not like them and he beat his daughter up because she behaved like them.
" None of my children could go to university but this one , she is very smart and
intelligent....her teachers write good and excellent ......." is very significant as it emphasises why he is unable to accept why his daughter is behaving this way.
I agree with the taximan as to why he is so infuriated because he has been working tirelessly this 20 years just for his child to go to University, but now his daughter has let him down totally by cheapening herself, she is also his only child that can make it to University.
However, my stand is that both parties are in the wrong the taximan should not apply so much pressure on her, causing her to behave in an undesirable behaviour while the daughter should not cheapen herself this way as it could derail her future and disappoint her parents.
the author uses broken english to show that that the taximan is poorly educated so he is pinning all his hopes on his daughter. He also keeps repeating the word madam as a form of respect for the teacher and his lack of vocabulary. The theme of the story is that to stand by your morals and reject bad influences.
Finally ,I would like to ask a question:Why is it that the taximan still wants to pick up such teens who play around with themselves just because of the lure of money? Shoudn't he go according to his own moral values?

Anyway , I am a devout fan of ARSENAL FC, so arsenal fans , I beseech you to read my blog and give me your treasured opinion.
Can someone read my blog and let me have a happy CNY. PLEASE!!!!!
Happy CNY all bloggers and fellow classmates, wishing all of you a prosperous new year!!!!!!!!
This days ,people's health are getting worse and worse. Why is that so ? There are many reasons. One of the main reasons is eating processed food. What is processed food? An example is instant noodles. Personally, I used to be a fan of instant noodles as it was so convenient and tasted heavenly. Whenever I was hungry, I would consume instant noodles instead of a proper meal. However, I had stomach discomfort and so I decided to stop indulging in instant noodles. True enough, my discomfort vanished.

I have also read of articles of people contracting diseases like cancer after comsuming processed food. Not long ago, several milk products were found to have contained overly large amounts of melamine. Melamime can cause kidney stones and in serious cases ,death. I have realised that the human body was never built to be laden with processed food. Perhaps we should stop consuming such artificial products or our body could react abnormaly.

Ladies and gentlemen, my team and I are proud to announce that we have just invented an electronic device that helps other students learn better in the classroom . We call this device the "Learning Assistant" This will change the world of education. Now let me describe to you this new device. Students can type in their doubts and their friends would be able to know it and attempt to answer . If none of the students can answer it the device will then provide the answer to the students doubt to every body ,so everyone will know the answer and thus allowing more condusive learning. It would also allow shy students to be able let known their opinions.Wouldn't that be great?Think about it

Good evening , I am one of the older workers invited by the manpower industry to give a short speech. If I am not wrong, majority of the gentlemen/ladies here are local buusinessmen. I would like to encourage you to hire older workers like me. I would like to emphasise that although we are old, we can still work. Besides, we have invaluble experience that younger workers lack. Should you decide to hire older workers like us, I assure you that it will be a decision that you will never forget.

THIS IS FICTIONAL.
I am the chairman of the Farmers' Cooperative in Jiangsu.I hope to create awareness of the hardships the farmers are experiencing due to the reforestation/consevation project by the officials.the hardships the farmers will face when their land is reforested, they would not be able to grow anymore crops and thus would not be able feed their families. I know that no governor would want his people to starve, so I beseech the governor to take action and undergo the reforestation project in moderation and to provide jobs for farmers to feed their starving families

Thank you for your listening THIS IS FICTIONAL TTear.
I am a member of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to animals. I am honoured to be allowed to present a speech to raise the awareness of whaling in Japan in the public forum. As the demand the body parts of whales and whale oil increases, more whales are being captured and killed, causing the whale population to be depleted rapidly and on the brink of extinction.Whales have lives too, just like us! Besides, they are almost harmless, causing no harm to humans at all, but yet whaling is killing thousands of majestic and beautiful whales every year. The fishing industry is booming, but for whales, extinction is looming. We are the cause of their endangerment but we are also the capable of preventing whales from vanishing from this world I hope that all whalers would conduct the activity of whaling in moderation and not in excess.

thank you.

Hi guys, I 'm new in the "blogging industry''! Yes, it's my first ever blog! My brother's much better than me in english but I hope that through this blog my english can improve by leaps and bounds and that I can eventually surpass him
